Spirituality Survey

Spirituality represents our most personal beliefs. Spirituality is the way we shape meaning, a sense of belonging and purpose, wellbeing, and inner peace in our lives. Many people support their spirituality through religious beliefs and practices. Others nurture that "inner self" through poetry, music, art, or experiences with nature. Still others cultivate a sense of spiritual well being by seeking to live according to a set of values and principles.

The Beale Air Force Base chapel team wants to know how YOU experience spirituality. Please take a few minutes to participate in this anonymous survey that will help us understand the depth and diversity of spirituality in our community. At the end of the survey, you will be given the option of remaining anonymous or participating in a follow-on project of highlighting some Beale spirituality profiles.

Soar Into Shape!

The Health and Wellness Center (HAWC) has yet another healthy living challenge to get Beale members and their families to live a healthier lifestyle. Soar into Shape allows teams of four to accumulate points by either eating fruits, vegetables or drink their daily fluids, attend classes and wellness challenges, and either maintain or lose weight/abdominal circumference (AC).

The purpose of Soar into Shape is:
  • Increase fruit and vegetable consumption (5 servings per day)
  • Exercise at least 45 minutes 4-5 times per week
  • Increase water or sugar-free, caffeine-free beverage consumption (64 oz per day)
  • Decrease BMI to achieve a healthy weight
  • Be fit and healthy or stay fit and healthy
  • Have fun! (priceless)

There will be an initial weight ins and then every other week after that. AC will be measured at the initial weight in and at the final one. The top 3 teams with the most points wins and we will have a top male and female finisher as well.

Orientation will take place at the HAWC (located inside the Omni) on August 13 - 15. Please contact the HAWC with any questions or for more information at 634-3500.

Housing Law Enforcement Sub-Station

The 9th Security Forces Squadron opened a Law Enforcement sub-station in the housing area June 16. This new office area, located at 5114 Tern Court (previously the location of Beale Airman's Attic) will provide a more streamlined process for Security Forces to carry out their duties, while still providing vital security and protection to the personnel and property in the housing area.

The sub-station will provide many of the same services available at the Security Forces Squadron, such as receiving walk-in complaints, incident reporting and interview capability, with convenience and accessibility to more than 2,000 housing residents. The sub-station will also serve as a secondary workplace for Security Forces to process reports and paperwork, facilitating more time to focus on community involvement and law enforcement for our base housing residents.

Ultimately, the goal of the sub-station is to both better serve and provide an added convenience for base housing residents, alleviating the added time and mileage normally associated with reporting back to the 9th Security Forces Squadron in the main base area.

The substation will not be manned twenty-four hours daily; therefore, it is not a place to report emergencies. All emergencies and 911 calls will still be processed through the 9 SFS Law Enforcement Desk at 634-2131. Personnel still need to contact the Law Enforcement Desk in order to contact our on-duty Security Forces. Please direct any questions or concerns to 9 SFS Police Services at 634-2111.

Beale Spotlight: Beale Author Maj Joseph Slavick

The Cruise of the German Raider Atlantis by Joseph P. Slavick, Commander 9th Force Support Squadron, Beale AFB

Atlantis, one of Germany's most successful World War II raiders, boasted the concealed firepower of a light cruiser yet had no armor.  During her two-year cruise behind Allied lines, she captured or sank twenty-two merchant ships, broke enemy codes, and got hold of valuable intelligence material from the British that included secret plans for the defense of Singapore. Using the ship's log, crew interviews, and extensive research, the author recounts the real story behind the mystery ship that rarely flew her own flag and never wore her own name.

Joseph P. Slavick draws on previously unavailable data to detail Atlantis's 655-day saga.  As a chronicle of an often misunderstood kind of strategic and economic warfare, the book stands as a tribute to the dedication, tenacity, resourcefulness, and chivalry of a unique naval officer and his handpicked crew. Their intriguing story will appeal to all readers who like military history, epic, true-life adventure stories, and the lore of the sea.
