Operation Life Transformed
Military spouses are employed at lower rates and earn less than civilian wives, on average.
The majority of military spouses believe that the military lifestyle — including frequent moves, deployments and long hours that keep service members from assisting with parenting, and living in areas with poor local labor market conditions — has negatively affected their employment opportunities. Almost half believe that their educational opportunities have suffered.
The mission of Operation Life Transformed (OLT) is to provide education and resources to our military spouses and caregivers, and increase awareness of the long term needs of these families and support the military spouse and caregiver as they re-enter the workforce.
OLT's goal is to provide:
- To reduce military spouse and war wounded caregivers barrier to employment.
- To increase the education and training needs of the military spouse in careers that are portable or virtual.
- To balance the effects of spouse employment on readiness, retention, and family wellness
- To increase employment opportunities in a virtual or portable workforce. Portable, for the military spouse, due to frequent relocation, permanent relocation, and change of station which is a vital component where the military base may be isolated. Virtual, for the war wounded caregiver, where daily schedules must adhere to medical needs, rehabilitation, multiple Dr’s appointments, disabilities and limitations.
