Tour the Stats Capitol

Free guided tours of the California State Capitol are given seven days a week from 9am to 4pm, excluding some holidays. Guests can get the complete history of California and it's governors as they wander among the portraits in the hallways and visit the exhibit rooms of this architecturally stunning and historically rich building. Tours are approximately one hour in length and group size is limited, so tickets for public tours are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning 30 minutes before each tour. The Tour Office is located in room B-27 in the basement of the historic wing of the Capitol (near 11th and L Street entrance).

On the Capitol Tour the evolution of the Capitol and the function of government are discussed while viewing three floors of the building, whenever possible, visitors can witness the Senate and Assembly in session from the viewing balcony on the third floor.  Guest can also take the Historical Tour and enter the recreated executive offices as they were in the turn-of-the-century or the Capitol Park Tour and explore the history and beauty of the Capitol Park gardens.

The California State Capitol Museum is home to an extensive collection of important historical California artifacts, artwork, and antique furnishings and hosts numerous activities and exhibits throughout the year.

While visiting Sacramento take the tour of the Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park. Built in 1877, this 30-plus-room mansion served as home to only 13 of California’s 38 governors. The last governor to live in the house was Ronald Reagan. The park is located at the corner of 16th and H Streets, metered parking is available on both 16th and H Street.  Grounds are open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily. A small gift shop is located in the carriage house, where the entry fees, (adults $4, youth $2, 5 years and under, free) are collected and the tour orientation begins.
