Paternity Leave

As of October 14, 2008 married, active duty military members are authorized 10 days of permissive (non-chargeable) paternity leave when the member’s wife gives birth.  The act, signed by President Bush, is known as FY2009 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The paternity leave must be taken within 60 days following the birth of a child and may be taken in conjunction with ordinary approved leave.  Military members who are deployed or on TDY during the specified period are not authorized paternity leave.
